Hiring a Personal Chef: 9 Things You May Not Know

You might think you know everything about hiring a personal chef from watching actors on TV or reading about celebrities’ chefs in real life. But there is so much more to a personal chef than that. Here are some things that might surprise you about personal chefs.

Personal chefs are hired for different occasions

You can hire a personal chef for a one-time special occasion or daily meals. Hire a personal chef for whatever needs you might have. At the start of the week, your personal chef can cook up enough food for you to eat throughout the week; just heat up a meal when you get home from work or whenever you’re hungry.

All chefs are different

No two chefs are the same, so every meal you get will be unique and flavorful for you. If you want sushi, we’ve got someone for you. Italian food? No problem. Most times, chefs have multiple specialties, so you’ll have a variety of meals from your chef. Whether you decide to try different chefs or keep the same chef, you’ll get a variety of different foods to eat at your special event or every day.

Hiring a personal chef is affordable

When you hear the term “personal chef”, you might instantly think hiring one is out of your budget, but they’re actually not that expensive. Compare the cost of eating three meals a day, seven days a week, to hiring a personal chef. Depending on who you choose to hire, the cost of a personal chef may be the same price as eating out, but oftentimes, it’s cheaper. You’ll get all the specialness of hiring a personal chef while saving money.  You can get a free quote today to see for yourself.

Personal chefs are not private chefs

Fun fact, personal chefs are not private chefs. Although they might sound the same, the main difference is personal chefs often have multiple clients like families or for events while private chefs only have one, and they can be live-in. Just a fun fact.

Hiring a personal chef means no grocery shopping

You’ll save so much time each week not having to do grocery shopping. Since your personal chef is doing all the cooking, they’ll have their shopping list of ingredients and walk down the aisles of the market for you. Hiring a personal chef won’t mean you’ll have to add ingredients for them to cook; they’ll take care of it for you.

They accommodate your dietary restrictions better than a restaurant ever could

Everything is being cooked in the clean environment of your home. Fresh ingredients are brought straight to you to be cooked, so there is no risk of cross-contact, or when any food you can’t eat touching the food you will be eating. Restaurants have huge kitchens that send out so many meals, and chefs there can’t give their undivided attention to one meal. A personal chef can.

They prepare restaurant-quality meals

Most personal chefs have years of experience working in restaurants creating tasty meals every day. When you hire a personal chef, you can rest assured they know what they’re doing. They’re bringing their restaurant experience straight into your home. You’ll get a private, personalized meal that is fit for any restaurant.

They come when it’s convenient for you

If you schedule with enough time ahead, you can agree on a time that works best for you. Hiring a personal chef will not get in the way of your busy schedule because it’s supposed to make life easier for you! As long as you give them enough time and schedule with them, you’ll have an appointment whenever you need it to be

Hiring a personal chef is possible for any event

Birthday coming up? Got it. Backyard wedding? No problem. Baby shower? Bridal shower? Anniversary? Business dinner party? Whatever the event, you can find a personal chef who can cook a special meal for everyone.

Did any of these points surprise you? If they did, why not try a personal chef for yourself? Hello Cheffy has a huge variety of chefs who want to cook for you and your guests. See if you can see all of these points at the end of your amazing experience with delicious food.

How to Explain Your Personal Cook to Your Practical Mom

So, you either have a personal cook or you’re thinking of getting one. That’s great! You’re going to have delicious food every day and it’s going to be awesome… until you realize you’re going to have to tell your mom. Which might not be a big deal for some, but it might be a huge deal for those who have a very practical mom.

Maybe your mother believes the best meal is one cooked yourself, which might be true, but maybe you’ve taken cooking classes and you still manage to burn scrambled eggs. Or maybe you don’t have time in your busy schedule and you just don’t like eating out.

Either way, you’ve got to explain your personal chef some way to your mom. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with some solid arguing points.

Your personal cook is not expensive

Just think about how much money you would spend eating out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day, each week. And we’re not talking about those quick drive-thru meals or to-go meals. No, your personal chef makes you restaurant-quality meals that’ll last you the week, and the cost of that is far less than what you’d pay to eat three meals out at a restaurant. You can ask for a free quote today to compare to how much you spend a week eating out.

They save time

You’re a working adult who has things to get done with tight deadlines. Your personal cook goes out to get the finest ingredients for your meals, so you don’t have to go grocery shopping, and then they bring them to your kitchen to prepare and cook. After, they’ll package it away for you to eat throughout the week. When you come home late from work, you just reach into the fridge and pull out a fresh container of your favorite food and heat it up. Take it with you to work for lunch. Your personal chef saves you so much time. You can go out into the world and be the successful adult who still has time for hobbies and living life.

They cook healthy, home-cooked meals

Maybe your mom thinks that, since you’re getting delicious food all the time, you’re not being healthy. Everything will be made in your home with fresh ingredients, and you can see everything that goes into your meals. You can verify that nothing is processed or unhealthy. Plus, your personal meals will prevent you from stopping by the fast-food joint you always go to. Your mom will be proud.

Your personal cook isn’t a random stranger

You didn’t find your personal chef off the street or just bump into them at the grocery store. No, this special person who cooks for you knows what they’re doing, and they’re ready to cook for you. If your mom thinks you’re inviting a complete, random stranger into your home, you can kindly explain that Hello Cheffy only has reputable chefs. They have experience and they love cooking for you!

It’s like having a best friend who cooks for you

Okay, we’re not saying you’re paying for a best friend. You’ve got plenty of those already. But just like your friend knows your favorite food and dangerous allergies, your personal chef know exactly what to make and what ingredients to avoid. Your personal chef is here to cook for you and make your life easier and your food yummier. So yeah, your chef is your best friend who cooks for you.

But jumping back to allergies. Your personal cook knows your dietary restrictions, and they’re cooking in your home with fresh ingredients. If you have a nut allergy, your home kitchen will likely be free from all nuts and your personal chef won’t bring any food or ingredients containing nuts anywhere near. Your mom will have peace of mind knowing your food won’t be contaminated inside your home. Restaurants are good at keeping cross-contamination to a minimum (like with bacteria and viruses that lead to food-borne illnesses) but they aren’t usually able to avoid cross-contact (food touching other food) like your personal chef can.

At the end of the day, moms just want the best for you. They want to be sure you’re using your money wisely, eating healthy, and just keeping safe. Talk to her using these points, but let her try a meal your personal chef cooked first. She’ll be much more accepting after eating something delicious and healthy!

7 Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions About Personal Chef Services

So, you’re ready to hire a personal chef?  Awesome!  Personal chefs are used by individuals who want to make a special occasion spectacular and by busy professionals who just don’t have time to cook healthy meals every day.  They are used by those with limited time or mobility, such as new mothers or those recovering from surgery.  Some hire chefs for birthday parties, anniversaries, holiday events or vacation rentals (think bachelorette party!). Whatever your need, this article helps to answer some of the most commonly asked questions about personal chef services.

What services are included when I hire a personal chef?

The chef will plan a menu for the occasion, shop for all ingredients, prep in advance, and cook and serve your meals. You have the option of having the chef cook on-site—which is the ultimate chef experience as you and your guests can then talk with the chef about meal prep—or you can choose to have your food delivered.  The chef will leave your kitchen as clean as it was before they arrived.

Is a personal chef affordable?

The service that a personal chef provides is comparable in price to the equivalent meal served in a restaurant.  Of course, if you order a gourmet burger, the price will be significantly less than filet mignon and lobster.  Prices will vary based on menu selections and the selected chef.  But for an in-home event, you get to skip the upcharge for beverages or any corkage fees that you would pay in a restaurant.  And, the convenience and experience of having a personal chef come to you is priceless.

>>Use our minimum budget calculator to find a recommended budget for your event.

Will a personal chef create dishes from my recipes?

If you have a recipe that you want the chef to prepare, be sure to share it with the chef when discussing menu options.  Many chefs will want to purchase and prep all ingredients themselves to ensure that all food is properly handled per food safety requirements.  Most chefs will happily prepare your recipe. But, keep in mind that one of the perks of having a personal chef is to be able to enjoy food prepared at home that you would not otherwise prepare yourself.

Is there an organic ingredient option?

Our personal chefs will create a personalized menu based on your preferences.  This includes using all organic ingredients (if requested) or preparing meals for special diets (like vegan, ketogenic or or low-sodium).  A personal chef will also make adjustments to recipes based on your dietary restrictions or food allergies.

When and where are meals prepared?

While meals can be prepared on-site or delivered, we highly recommend having meals prepared on-site.  Our chefs have keen culinary knowledge and love to share their passion for creating delicious food with others.  Having a personal chef prepare meals on-site will leave your guests with a memorable experience.  The chef will work with you to set up an arrival time.  Depending on the menu, arrival times can be two to four hours before the meal is to be served.  Larger events (such as weddings) may require an earlier arrival time.

How much advance notice does the chef need?

Ideally, we like at least 48 hours to give you competitive bids from personal chefs.  However, we have been able to find chefs for clients with as little as 24 hours notice.  Keep in mind that personal chefs often book earlier for weekend and holiday events.

Now that you are in-the-know, go out there and hire your personal chef.  You can get competitive bids from chefs on our service request page.

Memorial Day guide

A Guide to Your Best Memorial Day BBQ

Memorial Day weekend is a popular weekend to camp or go to the beach, but that also means crowds and traffic.  Hosting a Memorial Day BBQ in your own backyard is a great way to seize the three day weekend without dealing with the crowds.  Below is a guide to your best Memorial Day BBQ.

Set the Tone

When imagining the sounds of a relaxing Memorial Day BBQ, the sizzle of the grill is often accompanied by good music.  Much like the food itself, music will set the tone for your at-home get together. If you want your guests to lounge, some easy listening stations on Pandora Radio such as John Mayer, Frank Ocean, or Erykah Badu will soften the space.  To encourage a more lively atmosphere at your Memorial Day soirette, upbeat and kid-friendly artists like Imagine Dragons, P!nk, or Kelly Clarkson may be preferable. Think about what kind of mood you want to set for your guests and let the music work its magic.

Gourmet Grill Master

Bar-b-que food is a staple of Memorial Day traditions, but it doesn’t have to be the same old hot dogs and hamburgers.  If you want some more complex flavors to delight your palate, a personal chef might actually be the grill master you’re looking for. Don’t get stuck behind the grill. Hang out with your guests, enjoy the music, and participate in the fun!  Let your personal chef take care of the menu planning, shopping and cooking.

In Good Company

What matters most, of course, is good company.  Surrounded by friends and family, everyone is sure to make some meaningful Memorial Day memories.  Casual get-togethers like these are also great opportunities to invite people you’d like to get to know better.  If there’s some of your kid’s friends’ parents, newcomers at church, or new neighbors you would like to know, invite them!  Creating a Facebook event is a great way to see who’s interested.  BBQ food can be a good crowd-pleaser, no matter who is invited.

Skip the beach and campground crowds.  Stay home this year and have a stress-free Memorial Day BBQ in your own backyard.  Kick-back, relax, and enjoy your three day weekend!

7 Foods and Supplements for a Healthier Liver

The liver is the most metabolically active organ in the human body. It is often thought of as a detox organ, but it has many other functions like storage of energy and nutrients, hormone production, and immune modulation. Two of the most common causes of fatty liver disease are obesity and alcohol. However, many people have fatty liver and are not obese nor do they drink alcohol.

This is because things such as high fructose corn syrup, hormone imbalance, and an unhealthy gut can all alter metabolic activity in the liver and generate fat production. Yes, you read that right: having an unhealthy gut can affect the liver.

Fortunately, this condition can often be easily turned around with–you guessed it–a healthy diet. Foods and supplements, such as vitamin E, probiotics, and polyphenols play a critical role. Get rid of that fatty liver with this list of seven foods and supplements for a healthier you.

Probiotics have been shown to slow the progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and are highly recommended. They help by reducing the bad bacteria in the gut thereby reducing the endotoxins that can damage liver metabolism.  Here is a guide to the top-rated probiotics of 2017.

Leafy greens

Leafy greens contain the most bio-active forms of methyl-folate, important for liver heath and detoxification. Methylation is used by the liver to help clear toxins and unwanted hormones and leafy greens have plenty.

Berries contain good amounts ofpolyphenols which not only act as anti-oxidants, but also promote the growth of good gut bacteria. This helps to crowd out the bad bacteria. Elderberries have some of the highest concentrations of polyphenols and are a great option for anyone threatened with fatty liver disease.

Vitamin E

This supplement has been shown to be protective in healing fatty liver, due to its antioxidant properties. Be sure to supplement with a complete vitamin E like this one from Life Extension, instead of the typical form. In this case, something is better than nothing. Any form of vitamin E will have some good gut benefits.  Pick foods high in Vitamin E, such as spinach, tomato paste, nuts and seeds, eggs, and avocados.

Antioxidant Rich Foods

People with fatty liver will likely have a low antioxidant status in their body. This leaves the liver unprotected from free radical damage like toxins, metabolic activity, etc.  Here is a list of 7 Super Antioxidant Rich Foods that can improve any diet.

Turmeric is every nutritionist’s favorite spice. It is a very liver protective compound. Incorporate it into meals for a healthier you.

Nutrient dense and full of antioxidants as well as methyl donors. This amazing food is very liver protective and also promotes good digestion by supporting the gallbladder.

Fatty liver affects many Americans. You can reduce your risk with foods and supplements from this list. Reducing excess starchy carbohydrate consumption will also improve liver function. Need help with a diet change? A personal chef can make delicious and healthy meals, perfect for healing your liver and metabolism. 4 Ways to Gather with the Gals for Galentine’s Day

Traditional holidays are being reclaimed by those who are tired of the same hum-drum or who simply do not subscribe to the commercialistic chaos which now characterizes many US holidays today. The term “Galentine’s Day” has now replaced the traditional “Valentine’s Day” for women who find much more enjoyment in gathering with their gals rather than face crowded, over-priced restaurants and cheap chocolates with their sweethearts.  Without further adieu, as a homage to sisterhood and solidarity, here are four ways to gather with the gals for Galentine’s Day.

1. Go to the Movies

Meet up with the gals to go see a corny movie!  Let’s face it, most of the movies that come out for Valentine’s Day are super cheesy.  So what?  Make the most of it!  Go make fun of a silly movie and laugh, laugh, laugh with your gal pals. Laughter really is the best medicine. Here’s Fandango’s list of movies coming out on Galentine’s Day.

2. Take a Spa Day

The practice of self-care and self-love are too often neglected.  Multi-task by going to the spa — practice self-care and hang with the gals!  It doesn’t have to break the bank either.  Groupon has tons of spa deals.  Take a load off, be with your girls on Galentine’s Day, and treat yo-self.

3. Go Glamping

Speaking of coining words to transform a tradition — glamping is exactly what it sounds like:  Glamorous Camping.  Glamping is the perfect way to gather with your glamorous girlfriends for Galentine’s Day.  Whether you want to stay local or take an unforgettable journey somewhere, you can find your perfect destination using Glamping.com.  Be one with nature and one with your sisters without getting too much dirt in your hair.

4. Have a Fanciful Feast

Obviously you won’t be getting a decent reservation anywhere worth going amidst all the congested couples, but if you hire a private chef you can gather with your gals at home and have a grand ol’ time!  You can confer with your chef about menu options and really personalize your Galentine’s Day experience.

If you’re tired of the boring traditions and over the commercialism, create your own traditions with your gal pals and do something fun and unique!  In the end, Valentine’s Day is supposed to be about celebrating love.  Celebrate the love you have for your fellow sisters and have a light-hearted night of fun on Galentine’s Day.

How to Have a Stress-Free Thanksgiving Gathering at Home

With the whirlwind of the holidays, it’s not always everyone’s favorite time of year.  Thanksgiving and Christmas can be a stressful time for folks.  The last two months of the year are nothing short of busy, but here are some ideas to make your Thanksgiving or “friendsgiving” gathering stress-free.

A Time for Relaxation

The Game

Thanksgiving is a time for family love, turkey love, and the love of the game.  There’s nothing more American than watching football and eating turkey with your family on Thanksgiving.  Even though I’m not a year ‘round football fan myself, the sounds of football on in the background is a Thanksgiving tradition that immediately sparks my soul with nostalgia.  Plus, the commercials are just as entertaining as the game itself!  Relaxing with the game on is a definite must for a true, stress-free Thanksgiving gathering.

The Parade

For any non-football lovers in the family, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is always a sure hit.  If you can’t be at the parade in person, you’ll definitely want to watch the giant floats and awesome performances from the comforts of your home.  You can learn about the history of the famous annual parade on the parade’s website.

Charlie Brown

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is another Thanksgiving classic that puts me right in the autumn spirit.  This is usually an after dinner, pumpkin pie a-la-mode activity at our Thanksgivings.  If you don’t already own it, you can buy it on Amazon and get free two-day shipping if you have Amazon Prime.  At the end of a warm, cozy meal there’s nothing better than snuggling up with the kids in the family and sleeping off the turkey with A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving lullaby.

Let’s Play

Board Games

Watching football and a parade on TV is not always sure to keep the kiddo’s entertained for long.  Having board games on hand is a great way to bond with the whole family on this day of gratitude.  Even if there are no kids at your family gathering or friendsgiving, board games bring folks together.  If there are new people at your gathering this year, board games are a great way to bond and get to know them.  If you’re looking for new games to bring out during your Thanksgiving gathering, Barnes & Noble has a brilliant assortment of new and classic games.

Outdoor Games

When people start getting restless watching football, playing your own game of touch-football is sure to make amazing memories.  If the weather permits, touch-football is a great way to get everybody up and connecting.  Whether your gathering has athletes or folks who prefer not to keep score, outdoor games get the good vibes going.  Getting outside is one part of the recipe to a stress-free Thanksgiving.

Having a little craft station set up somewhere is always a hit with kids.  Whether they have pumpkins to paint, paper to print on, or masks to make, crafts can keep kids creating for hours.  If they seem really into it, you could even make an event about everybody showing off what they made after dinner!

The Main Event

With all the fun relaxing and playing with your family, it seems like a shame to step away from all of that rare time together to make dinner.  When you hire a personal chef for Thanksgiving, you don’t have to.  Relax, play, and bond with your loved ones at your stress-free Thanksgiving gathering.  Let your personal chef from Hello Cheffy serve you all that warm comfort food.

In the end, Thanksgiving is a day for gratitude.  Going around the table and sharing what you are thankful for while enjoying a gourmet meal prepared by your personal chef will bring lasting memories.  When you share out loud what you’re grateful for, it truly echoes in your heart any and all abundance you have in your life.  It is important to consciously recognize that if not every day, then at least once a year.

Now that you’re filled with inspiration and resources, go have an amazing, stress-free Thanksgiving!  Whether you’re gathering with your family for a traditional Thanksgiving or your chosen family for a friendsgiving, remembering all that you’re grateful for is what will make this holiday a nostalgic one.

How Much Does a Personal Chef Cost?

If you are curious about hiring a Personal Chef but not sure if you can afford it, Hello Cheffy has your back.  We broke down the details of what exactly you’re getting when you hire a chef. Below we outline elements of a typical Personal Chef cost.

What is a Personal Chef?

Although the terms “Personal Chef” and “Private Chef” are often used interchangeably, they are actually distinctly different.

A Personal Chef may be hired for special events such as birthdays, anniversaries, or bachelor/bachelorette parties.  A Personal Chef can also be used for short term and long term assignments.  For instance, a family may not have time to do their own grocery shopping or cooking with the arrival of a new baby or when the a household member is recovering from surgery.  In this case, they hire a Personal Chef for a short term assignment.  A Personal Chef may also be hired for ongoing service.  Busy families, senior citizens, and folks with special dietary restrictions are likely to need a chef for long term assignments.  Personal Chefs are often paid a fee for service.  They can be hired through Hello Cheffy for special events or temporary assignments.

Conversely, a Private Chef is typically hired to come to a family’s home and cook meals on a regular basis.  Private Chefs are normally employed by their client on a part-time or full-time basis and are often paid a fixed salary.

How Much Does a Personal Chef Cost?

The cost of personal chef services depends on a few factors.  Prices can be made:

  • per meal or per person (with kids usually at a lower price) and/or
  • at an hourly, monthly or event rate

Keep in mind that for certain holidays–Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day–chefs are in higher demand.  Prices may be higher during these peak seasons.

The distance a chef is required to travel as well as the chef’s experience level are also factors affecting the Personal Chef cost.  Included in the cost of your Personal Chef is:

  • meal planning,
  • grocery shopping,
  • prepping,
  • cooking, and
  • serving, if needed

Hiring a chef is as affordable as dining out. Fees are generally similar to restaurant prices with a few noted benefits:

  • personalized service,
  • service in the comfort of your own home (or venue of your choosing), and
  • no markup for alcohol because you’re able to bring your own!
